How a Aircraft propulsion works?

                         Aircraft Engine

What is propulsion system in aircraft?

It is a machine that produces thrust or push an object forward. Thrust is usually generated through some application of newton's third law of action and reaction. A gas or working fluid is accelerated by the engine and the reaction to this acceleration produces a force on the engine.

What are the most commonly used aircraft engine?

The most common reaction propulsion engines flown are turbojets, turbofans, ramjet, pulse jet, turboprop etc.

Turbojets:-

The turbojet is an air breathing jet engine typically used in aircraft. It consist two main components
                                                   1. Turbine
                                                   2. Propelling nozzle
The compressed air from the compressor is heated by fuel in the combustion chamber and then allowed to expand through the turbine. The turbine exhaust is then expanded in the propelling nozzle where it is accelerated to high speed to provide thrust. It is highly efficient for supersonic aircraft. It consists intake, compression, combustion, exhaust of four important section.

Turbofan:-

It is a air breathing type of  jet engine that widely used in aircraft propulsion.Term 'turbofan' is composed of turbo and fan .Turbo refers to a gas turbine engine which achieves mechanical energy from combustion. And fan uses the mechanical energy from the gas turbine to accelerate engine forward. It consists different parts like fan, compressor, combustor, turbine nozzle etc.

Ramjet:-

It sometimes referred as a flying stovepipe or aero thermodynamic duct.It is a simplest types of a breathing engine. It does not require the compressor.Hence no need of turbine because the compression of air taken place by ramming effect. It consists four main parts.
                                                    1.Supersonic diffuser
                                                    2.subsonic diffuser section
                                                    3.combustion chamber
                                                    4.Discharge nozzle section
Air from the atmosphere with supersonic velocity enters the supersonic diffuser section where it is discharged to a sonic velocity.

Pulse jet:-

A pulsejet engine is a type of jet engine in which combustion occurs in pulses.A pulse jet engine can be made with few or moving parts and is capable of running statically. It is similar to the ramjet engine except the addition of flaper valve grids. Main components are-
                                                    1. Diffuser
                                                    2.Valve grid
                                                    3.combustion chamber
                                                    4. A sparke plug
                                                    5. A tail pipe or nozzle

Turbo prop:-

A turbo prop engine is a turbine engine that drives an aircraft propeller. It consists of an intake, compressor, combustor, turbine and a propelling nozzle. For relatively high take-off thrust or for low speed cruise applications, turboprop engines are employed.
